This week in pictures

University Theatre has two productions coming up at the end of March and through April: Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog and Dancing at Lughnasa. Here's a few pictures to document those productions:

Our COM 298 Costume Construction and Application class are building the dresses for Dancing at Lughnasa.
Right now they have the mock ups in muslin,
but soon they will be a full realization of the designer's renderings on stage!

"The definition of irony is washing a washing machine with a dirty t-shirt."
'Nuf said. (washing machine to be seen in Dr. Horrible...)

(...and I just thought the huge machinery added some dramatic flair to this picture)

Our library is getting a face-lift thanks to our amazing office and marketing assistant, Jarrett!!
Soon, we will have a full catalogue of our books online!

Lastly, I thought this was clever, and it made me chuckle, so I definitely needed to add it!

Here's to next week!

Dr. Horrible - Volume 3

Welcome to the third installment of Dr. Horrible mini[blog]-series.

I welcome any of the new minions who have only recently been introduced to this status quo-breaking blog. Alas, if Dr. Horrible has taught us anything it is that the status is not quo. (And, if Dr. Horrible hasn't taught you anything yet/this makes absolutely no sense to you I recommend you mark your calendar to snag a seat to this production - pronto).

In last week's post we searched into the realm of darkness,
unearthing the weaknesses names, majors, etc. of our cast members.

This week I dove deeper into the darkness and into the light (Literally. Rob had to turn the lights on for me so I could get some decent pictures). Let's see what was found:

Gurney. Never bodes well.

Gadgets and knobby things:

And you can imagine my utter joy at finding this state-of-the-art technology:
(I believe there was an audible "sweet sassy" when I set my eyes on it for the first time,
followed by the sound of the heavens opening. I'll let you interpret that yourself).

My mind immediately went to the last place I had seen machinery like this:
(some of you may recall my soft spot for anything Doogie Howser, MD).

And let's keep this train moving right on through our NPH 3 degrees of separation
and bring it full circle, people!
Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible:

OK, enough of that. Here is our Set Designer, Rob working on the set:

This is a picture with some of the small buildings that are on stage.
I attempted to take a Godzilla-like picture, but failed, so this is what you are left with:

Back of flats.

A better look at the main backdrop:

That's all I have for you this week, but we've still got 2 to go.
Check back in next Wednesday for Volume 4.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog will be performed March 30 - April 1 at 7:30pm and 2pm (Sunday) in the Kennedy-McIlwee Studio Theatre in Thompson Hall. All performances are free to the public, with a $5 suggested donation. Donations will help fund the next Student Studio. Tickets will be available at the door.

This week in picutres

Good afternoon, everyone! I hope you all are coming down off of your green eggs and ham from yesterday and are ready for a nice big dose of this week in pictures!

This week the scene shop has been dealing with a whole lot of this:

and cutting it with this:

but only once it is put together, like this:

Oh, and I found these:
They may or may not have anything to do with the foam,
but they are awesome nonetheless.

And these guys are trying to figure out how to cut the foam...:

into these:

And our ATD Andrew was nice enough to send me back to my office with my own little slice:
Now, I just need to whittle it into something, suggestions?

But wait, there's more! Ron and I also went around to some of the staff members to interview them about their work on Dancing at Lughnasa. You'll see the fruits of our labor in April. But, to tide you over, here's some still shots from our interviews.

Jayme, with his Lughnasa inspirations in the background.

Jen, in the costume shop, with costume renderings posted.

And Paul, in the catwalk. (My neck hurt after that one!) Can you find him?

And, because we love our patrons, we wanted to offer a St. Patrick's day special. Today is your last day for the buy one, get one free offer at Ticket Central for Dancing at Lughnasa! Be sure to call (919.515.1100) or stop by to get yours!

Dancing at Lughnasa runs April 7 - 10 and 13 - 17 at 7:30pm with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2pm in Thompson Hall.
