For the Love of Blog! - The State of the Arts

Today I bring you another arts blog that I love: The State of the Arts. You can find it here

Arts North Carolina is "
North Carolina’s statewide advocacy organization for the arts. ARTS North Carolina calls for equity and access to the arts for all North Carolinians, unifies and connects North Carolina’s arts communities, and fosters arts leadership. We speak for the arts wherever there is need."

Their blog, as well as their website, keep North Carolinians who care about the arts, updated on the political state of the arts. Arts North Carolina works extremely hard to advocate for the arts in North Carolina. Right now, there is a strong focus on the arts in education. (Education and Poli. Sci. majors: you might be interested!)

Karen Wells, Executive Director and Lobbyist, has an infectious attitude about the importance of the arts in North Carolina. We are extremely lucky to have such a hard-working woman behind this effort!

I recommend joining their email list and following their blog.
Many times, the advocacy end of things gets lost in our everyday effort to stay involved in the arts. I urge anyone who is interested in arts advocacy or simply wants to make sure the arts are present in our schools and community to check this organization out and become a member!

This week in pictures - Aug. 23 - 27

We can't wait to have our studio theatre back! Have you been in the building and heard the fire alarm going off? Yup, that's what they're working on.

Nancy and I at the SORC information fair in the Brickyard. Matching shirts and smiles!

Some of the production staff (and me) talking to COM 103, Intro. to Theatre about the opportunities available for their backstage requirement. Can you tell the staff is loving "this week in pictures"!? ;)

Perusal scripts are still available for Piece of My Heart and Inspecting Carol! Auditions are coming up quickly!

Testing out new banners that will hopefully not bubble in this NC heat! So far, so good...

Here's to next week...

For the Love of Blog!

A couple of posts ago I introduced the idea to make this blog a bit more structured (admittedly for my own sanity, but I hope it will benefit you as well).

On Fridays, I will post This Week in Pictures. Send yours on, too!

Mondays will be either "For the Love of Blog!" highlighting some theatre/arts-related blogs that I love (and you might too) or "Holy Blogosphere, Batman!". In the latter I'll share interesting tidbits from other blogs. I will also sprinkle in some student spotlights as well as general musings here and there throughout the week.

As you can tell by title, this week is a "For the Love of Blog!" kinda day. If you are in the theatre scene in North Carolina you want to follow this blog and/or put it in your RSS feed immediately.

This North Carolina Theatre Conference (NCTC) blog highlights any and all theatrical happenings around the state. There is general information, audition calls as well as posts for employment opportunities.

This blog is connected to their Facebook page, so I recommend "liking" their page as well... if you are into that sort of thing.

Is there any arts-related subject you are interested in? I bet there is a blog for that! Let me know what you are interested in and I will see what kind of blogs I can scrounge up, or let me know of a specific blog so I can follow!

This week in pictures - Aug. 16 - 20

This week in pictures...

Classes started! A great way to pass the time between class... taking advantage of Thompson Hall's wifi, reading perusal scripts and hanging out with friends!

How many guys does it take to put together a sewing machine? At least two. Please note that our costumer chose to run down stairs to take a picture of this instead of join in the assembly. ;)

Our open house was a huge success, bringing in record numbers! Our first ever theatre meeting brought together some of our theatre community. We hope more will stay next time!

The Arts NC State section of Cates Crawl was booming with interested students. Our APO brothers were at the helm answering questions and giving out information.

Auditions for Twelfth Night we Wednesday and Thursday. And, although I didn't stay late with my camera (some of us do need our beauty rest...), students came out with their best Shakespeare and we are looking forward to an amazing production!

Here's to next week...

We're back (and better than ever, of course!)

The University Theatre blog is back (after an unannounced summer hiatus...)!

The UT staff has had an extremely busy and successful summer. TheatreFest came back with the best response yet. Tickets sold like hotcakes and the audience left the theatre with bellies full of Agatha Christie. Keep an eye out for future blog posts from our students who were lucky enough to be involved!

I have big plans for the blog this year and now I just need to stick to it! I am hoping to have more regular student contributions and student spotlights as well as posting pictures from the week every Friday. But, I can't do it alone! If you want to hear about something, let me know! If you are a student involved with University Theatre and have something to say about your experience, send it on! If you have pictures from your time in our spaces as a patron or participant backstage, bring it on!

Let me know what I can do to make this yet another communal space where lovers of UT can come and chat about theatre, campus and any other musings.

For now, I leave you with a reminder of our 2010/2011 season (tickets on sale now!)

Twelfth Night
A Piece of My Heart
Inspecting Carol

Here's to a new season and to the awesome University Theatre community!
